Social Security Administration Offers New Expedited Service for Veterans Disability Claims

On Tuesday, March 18, the Social Security Administration (SSA) announced the launch of a new expedited disability process for veterans. According to Carolyn W. Colvin – Acting Commissioner of Social Security – the new process is designed to expedite disability claims filed by veterans by reducing wait times, addressing setbacks with processing, and placing an emphasis on getting veterans' claims through the system as fast as possible.

Under the new process, veterans with a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) disability rating of 100% Permanent & Total (P&T) will be eligible for the expedited service. In order to receive the service, veterans will also need to show proof of their disability rating and provide their VA Notification Letter. Once they have been approved for the service, veterans' with 100% P&T ratings will have their applications treated as high priority, similar to the way the SSA currently handles disability claims from Wounded Warriors.

The launch of the new expedited service is great step toward delivering the type of service our veterans deserve. These Servicemembers served and sacrificed for our country, and do not deserve to be given a bureaucratic runaround. Veterans who meet the requirements will be able to benefit from a faster, streamlined process – as well as expedited decisions. This will allow them to receive the benefits they deserve as quickly as possible.
